Chefs competing in the European Final in Bocuse d'Or d must showcase their skills with regional seafood to win over the judges.

– Bocuse d’Or Europe will give local seafood producers a unique opportunity to showcase themselves. The city of Trondheim will take center stage in the culinary scene this, says Bocuse d’Or Europe 2024 project manager May Britt Hansen.

She anticipates a wave of international visitors when the event is held in March, the prime season for seafood in Norway and Trøndelag. Dried fish from Tromsø, spawning cod from Lofoten and scallops from Frøya are selected as the ingredients when 20 star chefs compete in the seafood category.

Significant display
As the European final takes place in Trondheim, the city is also gearing up for the second annual Norway Seafood Festival. The festival is the main event for Norwegian seafood in Norway, and it will play a crucial role in spreading knowledge and raising awareness about the future’s most important food resource through various activities and events. One of the festival’s highlights is a seafood market that showcases the finest seafood products from Norway’s top producers.

– We anticipate that 50-100 food journalists from around the world will come to Trondheim. Additionally, food lovers and chefs will be present and serve as important ambassadors for Norwegian seafood. It will be a rare opportunity for seafood producers to show off to a large audience, says Hansen.

Boosting confidence
Hansen believes that the inclusion of Norwegian seafood on the menu at the world’s most prestigious cooking competition is a major boost for the self-confidence of the local seafood industry.

– Norway is home to the finest seafood in the world, with Trøndelag boasting a remarkable array of species. We can confidently say we are the world’s leading seafood nation and take great pride in it. The industry greatly benefits from having proud people, as they are crucial to effective recruitment.

She is confident that the industry will adeptly oversee the legacy of Bocuse d’Or Europe 2024.

– March is the ideal time for the Norway Seafood Festival. Winter in Trøndelag is a dream come true for foreign visitors, with frozen fjords, snowy scenery, and the freshest seafood imaginable. Maintaining Trøndelag’s position as a prime choice for tourists and foodies requires ongoing efforts to communicate this, Hansen concludes.
