– We are very much looking forward to creating curiosity and playful experiences related to all the edible things we find in the sea, says general manager at Trondheim Science Center, Åshild Adsen.

During Norway Seafood Festival 2 – 4 March, Trondheim Science Center will have a packed 2-day program where the coral reef will be in focus. During the festival, the public will get to know the world of coral reefs, and there will be a creative workshop with the use of mussels and other materials from the sea.

– This is very relevant for us from Trondheim, who have our own cold-water coral reef outside Tautra, says Adsen.

In addition, the visitors will meet biologists who will present live sea animals and life in the sea.

–  We will take a closer look at fish, sea cucumber, sea urchins and seaweed. The children also get to test their own knowledge of local fish species, says Adsen.

Sharing new research

One of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is preserving the ocean and marine resources in a way that promotes sustainable development. Trondheim Science Center wants to contribute to promoting new research on the sea, aquaculture and ocean space technology.

– The research fields in Trondheim are far ahead in finding better solutions for aquaculture. Without fishing and the aquaculture industry, no seafood. So we always need to learn more about this topic, Adsen explains.

Adsen thinks it is time for there to be an annual seafood festival in Trondheim.

– We hope this first festival will be an inspiring start to something that could become an annual celebration of sea and seafood in Trondheim, she concludes.
